I’m Mandy, the adventurer in training. After months of contemplating if I wanted to start a blog (and if I started a blog, what would I talk about), I finally came up with this one. A place to house my fitness goals and travel aspirations.
Who am I?
I’m a fun-lovin’ girl from Kansas. I’m a writer. I am not a morning person, but I do enjoy a morning run after I complete it. I thoroughly enjoy fast food. I do graphic design stuff for fun. I love me some caffeine. I’m friendly and thoughtful. I love dogs so much I nearly squeal every time I see one. (Thankfully, I have one of my own. My husband and I rescued a lab mix; his name is Dexter.) I’m a new homeowner. I like being active. I bake to relieve stress. I’m very detail oriented. When I laugh really hard, tears form. My favorite color is yellow. I love long conversations with friends — you know, the kind where you leave feeling lighter, happier. I wish I didn’t live in a land-locked state because I love the water. I own a sailboat. I feel most empowered after I watch a movie or listen to music. I hate yoga, but love cardio. I love setting a goal and actually achieving it. I also have a habit of writing a lot. :)
Why the name Adventurer in Training?
I haven’t had much exposure to big adventures, such as backpacking or white water rafting, like some others have. But, I still want to try my hand at them. Therefore, I classify myself as an adventurer in training. I want to find my way in the outdoors world. And if you get down to it, we’re all in training — trying to better ourselves.
What’s this all about?
In this blog, you’ll read (and sometimes see through photos) how I’m training to obtain a goal of mine. I’m going to keep a list below of all I want to do (not in any particular order). It’ll change and vary with time.
Finish a half marathon.Completed October 20, 2012.
- Hike the Appalachian Trail for 2 weeks.
- Go white water rafting.
Participate in the running portion of a triathlon or join a team in a relay and run a leg of the race.Completed April 7, 2013 (participated in the Brew-to-Brew relay).
- Try trail running.
- Go on a safari.
I’ll also include my travel adventures and some about my life, of course. That’s a given, huh?
What’s in it for you?
Entertainment, mainly. But I also hope you find my journey inspirational and motivational enough for you to start working toward your own goals.
Now, go on. Get out there and live.
